Tyson Thomas is a Dallas, Texas native and grew up in Plano, Texas, where he graduated from high school. He later graduated from Loyola University Chicago, majoring in Finance, before graduating from the University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law. While in law school, Tyson had his first legal work experience at The Godsey Law Firm, working as a litigation intern. The following summer, he worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas under the then-U.S. Attorney, Damien Diggs. 

While in law school, Tyson became an inaugural member of the law journal for the Southwestern Black Law Students Association: the Southwest Journal of Law and Equality, where he served as Managing Editor and authored the journal’s first-ever article, which was published on its debut volume. The article is a casenote of Mason v. State: an eight-year-long prosecution of Crystal Mason, an African-American woman from Fort Worth, Texas who was charged with violating the Texas Elections Code for voting in the 2016 general election as a recent releasee of federal prison. Tyson also participated in the Federal Bar Association’s Thurgood Marshall Memorial Moot Court Competition, representing his school in Washington, D.C.
